“JACKSON, Miss. (AP) Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour said Monday the state should consider merging some of its universities to save money.

Barbour, in announcing his budget recommendations, said Mississippi University for Women should merge with nearby Mississippi State University and that Alcorn State University and Mississippi Valley State University be merged into Jackson State University.

Barbour said none of the campuses would close.

The proposed change would leave Mississippi with five public universities rather than the current eight.

Barbour’s consolidation proposal would have to be approved by lawmakers. It is part of his suggested budget for the fiscal year that begins next July 1.

The Democratic chairman of the House Universities and Colleges Committee, Rep. Kelvin Buck of Holly Springs, opposes the Republican governor’s proposal. Buck said Mississippi would hurt its own economic future by limiting higher education.

Barbour also proposed that the state’s 152 public school districts be consolidated into 100.

He said he would expect the better performing school districts to remain intact while lower performing districts would be merged with others.

Barbour also suggested closing the School for the Arts in Brookhaven moving the program to Columbus on the campus of the Mississippi Math and Science School.” – news by WJTV.com

I generally speak to 80% of the people I see.
    Why?!
Honestly, I think someone told me once before to always acknowledge the presence of someone. It is a respect thing. I generally don’t care if anyone speaks back, I just cannot make eye contact without saying something or politely nodding my head. It is not a sign of weakness, it is just respect.

I generally do it because I think some people walk around and no one even notices them. Trust me, you are noticed and someone is always watching. They just do not have the courage to say they are watching. It is a genuine thing when I say “Hi, Hey, What’s Up, How are you, You good” or when I wave or shoot the deuces. I’ll take time out of what I am doing to show anyone respect because in order to get respect, it has to be shown.

I acknowledge the world because a small fraction of it acknowledges me.

I acknowledge the world because I am in it.

I acknowledge the people because I am not above them. I am one of them.

If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today? – Steve Jobs

I read this quote from the Speech Steve Jobs gave at the 2005 Stanford graduation. To live life like it was your last…

This is part of the reason I am always involved in things, always trying to have fun, and always trying to be full of life. I cannot get yesterday or yesteryear back, but I can definitely try to make this current moment the best moment ever. There are 24 hours in one day; therefore, I have 1,440 minutes to do something worthwhile. Each second is an opportunity. Take all 86,400 and use them!!

November is usually a month of memories for me. It brings back a lot of stuff that happened in life. Sometimes I wonder why, how, and what I was thinking at those points. That is life. You live and you learn.

As for being remembered, I would love to be remembered for my works and what I contributed to the small world around me. That is the reason I try my best to make a big impact. I do not want a negative memory or mark on my life, as I try my best to make it as positive as can be. Simplistic at times, but positive. Also, I was inspired to write a small piece on being remembered.
Inspired by T.I. – Remember Me

    How would YOU be remembered?
